James A. Cook Humanitarian Relief Fund

The James A. Cook Humanitarian Relief Fund (Cook Fund) was established in 1994 for the purpose of providing financial assistance (Grants) to current and former members of the Florida Park Service and members of the Florida Park Service Ranger Association (Association) who have experienced financial hardship due to major medical expenses, major property loss and other similar hardships. James Cook, who retired in 1988, cared deeply for all members of the “FPS family” and served as a mentor to many.

This fund is a reflection of the Ranger Association’s purpose, as well as, the values of the individual it honors. Since its inception in 1994, nearly $220,000 has been distributed to 260 individuals. Fundraisers such as raffles and auctions as well as donations have continued to provide funds to assist individuals and their families. The primary internal fundraiser for the Fund, the Arnold Kuenzler & Family Annual Auction, is held during the Annual Gathering.
